If you have only flown domestically in Nigeria, an international flight can be a shock. Dealing with FAAN security, Immigration, and NDLEA requires different preparation.
1. The Terminals are Separate
- Domestic: Casual atmosphere. Security is fast. Shops sell snacks.
- International: Heavy security. Multiple checks (NDLEA for drugs, Immigration for passports). Duty-free shops available.
2. Check-In & Boarding
- Domestic: Banks close 30-45 mins before departure. Airlines like Air Peace are strict.
- International: Counters close 60-90 mins before. You must be there 3-4 hours early.
3. Liquid Restrictions
- Domestic: Often relaxed. You might get away with a bottle of water (though not officially allowed).
- International: 100ml rule is STRICTLY enforced. No water bottles allowed past security.
4. Documentation
- Domestic: Any valid ID (NIN, Drivers License, Voter Card).
- International: Passport (6 months validity) + Visa + Yellow Card.
5. Delays
- Domestic: "Operational Reasons" delays are common. 2PM flights often leave at 4PM.
- International: Usually punctual. British Airways and Delta rarely delay unless there is a major issue.
